Tubular motor

A tubular motor is a cylindrical electric operator that fits inside the roller door barrel itself, driving the curtain directly rather than via an external gearbox and drive arm.

Because the motor is built into the barrel, roller doors using a tubular motor have a compact headbox with no visible external operator unit, unlike the wall- or ceiling-mounted operators used on up-and-over and sectional doors.
