What is a garage door survey?
A garage door survey is an installer's visit to measure your actual opening, check the structural opening for square and level, assess access for a wider retractable-gear door up to 5m, and confirm power availability for an electric operator. Most UK installers offer this free before issuing a firm quote.
What gets checked
An installer will measure the width and height of the opening at multiple points, check the frame is square and the walls plumb, assess headroom and side room for the chosen door type, and note where a power supply will be needed if you are having an electric operator fitted. Any brickwork issues or obstructions are usually flagged at this stage too.
Why it happens before the firm quote
